making a list…

Checking it twice…

This morning I am making a list of all the things I need (want) to get done before Christmas!

We had a wonderful time in Colorado despite the fact that the majority of us were sick the entire time.

I lost my voice the day after we got there and didn’t get it back until the day after we left.

Oh well.

I wanted a “do 0ver”, but the most  important thing was spending time with family and that is what we did.

The kids played, we saw deer and elk, and there was even a 10 minute snowstorm the night before we left!

So, now we are moving on…

Our lights are up outside.

I just ordered our holiday cards.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

home is…going home and coming home.

{colton+cadence} the dolls

I’ve been doing instead of dreaming around here lately.

Well, to be honest, I am still dreaming of a craft room where I can accomplish all my doing, but the dining room table is working out for now.

I’ve been using my sewing machine, and I am addicted!

Between finding new ideas on Pinterest and trying them out on my machine I am having a blast.

Here is my latest project.

Meet Colton…

and Cadence…

…the dolls.

My mom used to make handmade dolls when I was little. She made them for my sister and I. Made them for gifts. And, even made life sized dolls that were used as “gag” gifts for 40th birthdays, etc.

I wanted to be able to do this for my kids, too.

And, I can!

I found this pattern and tutorial online, and tweaked it a bit.

{There were quite a few ideas and patterns on Pinterest and etsy, as well}

I plan to make lots more of these dolls in the future.

Look for them in my future monthly giveaways and possibly at colton+cadence.

On a side note , the first version of the Cadence doll went missing after only 24 hours. She is either hiding in the house somewhere, or somewhere in the SW Portland area. So, I quickly made a second version…with yarn pigtails.

home is…handmade.

too much candy

I’m done with my detox.

I’ll write my thoughts about it soon.

All I can say right now is…get the halloween candy out of my house!

I just made myself sick eating candy…UGH!

I’m dropping the rest of the stash of here this afternoon.

Also, I am aware that I have a giveaway that I teased you about last week and did not post about.

Stay tuned on Friday…I promise it will be here!

home is…a tummy ache.

fall, football, and friends

We enjoyed a fall weekend of football and friends.

On Friday we celebrated our 11 year anniversary by taking the kids to the local high school homecoming game. We met our neighbors there and the kids had a great time!

Saturday was filled with friends at our house to watch the Oregon vs Colorado game. There was a lot more fun going on outside than football watching going on inside.

Check back this week for the 1st giveaway on my blog!

Also, I hope to update you on the changes we made to our yard now that they are final…until we add more next spring!

Stay tuned…

home is…fall, my favorite season of all.

funny feet

Today was the little guy’s first sharing day at preschool…

Monday afternoon the little guy and I came up with a list of things that start with the letter “F”.

Tuesday, we did an online search for images of those words.

I also looked through photos of the little guy to see if there were some of him with things that start with “F”.

I cut out the photos and images, glued them to colored construction paper, taped a ribbon to each and tied the ribbon around a hair elastic (they get really stretched out from my hair). I put the hair elastic around the top of a pair of boots and voila!

funny feet

friends and fresh flowers

fire, football and foot

four fingers, fall and french fries

family fun at the farm last fall

batman vs. joker

The little guy LOVES Batman.

It all started when he got a huge tub of Matchbox cars from the boys next door. His favorite car, out of hundreds, was a Batmobile. I told him all about who drove the Batmobile and we slowly grew the obsession.

{I have to admit that Batman is my favorite superhero, too. I used to watch “Batman: The Animated Series” after high school in the 1990’s.}

One day this summer the little guy and I did a fun project while the baby girl was napping.

He bought a black and white checkerboard gameboard at a garage sale and kept wanting to play his “new game”. I kept telling him that it didn’t have game pieces and that we would need to make some.

So we did.

Here are the supplies we used:

I had all of these supplies on hand to make glass bead magnets for Christmas gifts when the little guy was a baby.

  • circle craft punch
  • flat glass marbles
  • magnetic sheeting
  • modge podge
  • scissors

I found images for Batman and the Joker online and resized them to fit the glass marble (about 1″ x 1″). I printed about 16 per 8-1/2″ x 11″ sheet of paper and cut them out using the circle craft punch.

I also cut circles out of the magnetic sheeting.

I slathered one side of the magnetic sheeting with modge podge…

…placed the Joker or Batman logo on the magnetic sheeting…

…slathered the flat side of the flat marbles with more modge podge…

…and made a magnetic sheeting, logo, flat marble sandwich. I did this 14 times for Batman and 14 times for the Joker.

I placed all of them under a BIG, HEAVY book until the modge podge dried (the next morning).

After the arch enemies had a good nights rest under “The New Hunter’s Encyclopedia” I trimmed the magnetic sheeting that stuck out around the flattened marbles.

I also found a Batman vs. Joker image and modge podged it to the middle of the game board.

And, we play it like Checkers!

Of course, I am always the Joker.

And, the little guy is Batman.

home is…game time.
