impromptu food adventure…

Today was my husband’s birthday and, despite being an “old man”, he is still pretty cool.

We decided to go on an impromptu food adventure around Portland to celebrate.

First stop, Metro Perc for some Stumptown coffee…

The little guy specifically told me that he wanted to go to the “apple farm” (Oregon Heritage Farm) to buy his Poppa an apple for his birthday.  So, that was our next stop…

The little guy even used his own money to buy the apple for his Poppa…

Recently, Portland was voted to have the best food carts in the world…yes, WORLD!  We decided to check some of them out.  It was a hard choice to make because there are so many to choose from, but we chose Cartopia which is located at SE 12th and Hawthorne…

We ordered the Margherita Pizza from Pyro Pizza

a turkey, cream cheese and avocado crepe from Perierra Creperie

a shrimp Po’Boy from Bubba Bernies

and some fries from Potato Champion

The entire family enjoyed the food and the atmosphere…

My husband called the pizza from Pyro Pizza the best pizza he has had in Portland since we moved here almost 5 years ago.

We also ordered a last minute pie from Whiffies, but it was inhaled before I could take a photo of it!

Since we were in SE, we “needed” to stop by the HUB (Hopworks Urban Brewery…see my earlier post about it) for a growler to bring home for later…

We made it home in time for the kiddos to take naps and still have the rest of the day to celebrate!

Home is…an impromptu food adventure to celebrate the “old man’s” birthday.

green living…

My husband and I have wanted to buy a composter since we moved into our house 2-1/2 years ago.  We finally got one this week.

We ended up going with the Earth Machine compost bin through Metro.  It’s a great deal if you are interested in getting started with compost!

Our little guy helped my husband set it up yesterday, and he put our first items in it right after they set it up!

the little guy said…

“Mommy, we don’t have to recycle this bottle, we can reuse it!”
(while filling and pouring out sand from my empty beer bottle on the beach in Pacific City)

simple things

We did a lot of fun things in Pacific City to celebrate the little guys birthday, which I will write about in another post, but I have to mention his gifts. He is a spoiled kid, I’ll be the first to admit it.
He got a new bike and helmet at the beach on Saturday; a wagon full of new sand toys on Sunday; a watch, clothes, and a book the morning of his birthday; some train set buildings, a golf set, and a soccer ball and net the night of his birthday.
Wouldn’t you know it, but the “gift” that he played with all weekend (and it is still keeping him busy today) was a white golf ball and a Sponge Bob golf ball that the boys next door gave him on Friday morning as they were going golfing before we left for the beach. I told them how much he liked them and they came over on Monday night with a 6-pack of Sponge Bob golf balls for his birthday.
He still wanted to take all eight golf balls with us to Stroller strides this morning (which I let him do, of course).
Sometimes three year olds are really good at reminding us that it’s the simple things, right?

inn-spiration

Our family spent four days in Pacific City, Oregon over the Fourth of July. I am pretty sure the vacation and celebration was the beginning of a new family tradition!

baby girl’s nursery

My own house is a major work in progress that I never have the budget or the time to work on.  The only rooms that I have really taken on are the kids rooms.  They are both still “in progress” and probably always will be (like the rest of the house), but here you can get a glimpse of the work I have done in baby girl’s nursery…

a project still keeping me up at night

odyssey is home from his odyssey

Thank you to all of our friends and neighbors in Tigard, on Facebook, Twitter, and elsewhere for your help today!

Odyssey found a warm place to get out of the rain today.  He walked into a garage in our neighborhood and found a friend (Grace the chocolate lab) and her dog loving owners.  They took him in for 6 hours, fed him (I told you he was skinny), kept him dry, and gave him a playmate!  Once there was a break in the weather, they were able to walk around the neighborhood and came across the flyers that we put up throughout the neighborhood. I got a call,  and we were reunited!!

Thank you to all of you who shared my tweets and facebook posts…the world is a better place because all of you are in it!
