~secondhand and thrifted~

top of the fridge 3

This is the decor on the top of our fridge. I change it out through the seasons. It’s my version of a mantle…we have a mantle, but it is not very deep, so it stays the same except for minor changes.

This ceramic jack-o-lantern was my grandmothers. I love pulling it out each fall and always think of her. The globe is just one of my collection…there’s at least one globe in almost every room of the house!

This is part of my vintage thermos collection. I love the plaid and the fois bois for the fall. {After being away for the weekend, my flowers need to be changed out…just keeping it real.}

So, how about a little secondhand and thrifted fall decor in the kitchen? Do you decorate the top of your fridge?

{31 days} mason jar pendant light

{31 days} header

~created~

This is actually an update to one of my most popular posts of all time as well as one of my most pinned posts on Pinterest.

We had existing pendant lights in our kitchen, and I was getting tired of the shades so I cut some holes in mason jar lids and used the mason jars as “shades”.

After posting a photo of my kitchen on Instagram, I decided to write my first ever tutorial for a mason jar pendant light!

{I find my light kits at IKEA, but you can find something similar in the lighting section at Lowes or Home Depot}

IMPORTANT NOTE: After noticing that air needed to be vented from the jar somehow, I added some vent holes to the top by tapping extra holes in the lid with a hammer and nail.

{You can also read my original post {diy} mason jar pendant light from July 2012}

{our home} restyling

Thanks for your input on the rug…I promise to let you know which one I choose with a post here soon!

In the meantime I have been getting the house put back together…

restyling 1

Of course, it takes me longer than the “normal” person because I have to “restyle” everything as I put it away…in the kitchen.

restyling 3

Or, I decide to run to Target because our laundry room, which never had a rug, needs a cheery aqua rug!

restyling 4

Of course, trying to keep the kids entertained makes lots of new messes as we go along!

restyling 2

Ben needed a new rug by the back door so it wasn’t too slippery for his old legs (yeah, i need to clean the glass, too).

restyling 5

And, yeah, we needed a little back to school countdown decoration in the un-dining room.

So, you can see, it just takes me a bit longer to get things back to normal. We’re getting there…one mess at a time!

{diy} mason jar pendant light

Yesterday I took a photo of our clean kitchen and posted it on Instagram.

I was just happy to have it clean, but I had some questions about the mason jar pendants hanging above our counter.

So, here I am with my first {diy} post…I guess you could call it a tutorial, right?!

UPDATE: I recently cleaned our mason jars and added some vent holes to the top by tapping extra holes in the lid with a hammer and nail.
