game day

September 1st.

Everything was quiet this morning when I slipped out of bed and tiptoed down the stairs before 7am.

It’s game day…in more ways than one.

{ryan}

Ryan is in Idaho with the boys…Ben and Odyssey.

They did not get out to hunt AT ALL last year.

I wanted it to be different for Ryan this year.

Hunting is his passion.

It fuels him to be in the outdoors.

Watching the dogs work.

Soaking in the sun.

Seeing the birds fly.

Maybe even hitting one once in a while.

September 1st is game day in the world of bird hunting.

I hope that Ryan is in a mountain park chasing after Blue Grouse, laughing with his friends, and filling his spirit.

Game on.

{me}

Today is game day.

I had a goal when I came downstairs this morning.

I turned the TV on and the sights and sounds of ESPN’s College Game Day filled the room…and my spirit.

I love nothing more than the sights and sound of football.

It means my favorite time of year is here.

For years, before we had kids, I would spend the weekend working on design school projects, cooking, crafting, or relaxing to the sound of football.

The crowd noise.

The whistle blowing.

The announcers.

The school or team spirit.

It fuels me.

Today, we will listen to football while we play, craft, clean, and enjoy the last days of summer as they turn to fall.

Game on.

{refueling}

September 1st.

We’re refueling…in more ways than one.

It’s game day.

home is…sights and sounds that fill your spirit.

10 days

Since my last post.

Where did the time go?!

I’ve wanted to write, but I’ve been doing things.

Working on projects, exploring Portland, and enjoying a visit from Ryan’s parents.

{12 days}

Until school starts for my kiddos.

That means we have 12 days to soak up the rest that summer break has to offer.

Pool time, backyard fun, and maybe some additional adventures that we still need to cross off our summer list.

{8 days}

Until Ryan turns 40.

No party planned.

He didn’t want one.

I am kicking him out of the house this weekend.

I told him he had to go do something for himself and he had to be gone at least two nights.

It sounds like he has a perfect getaway planned.

{4 days}

Until college football starts.

Our house will be filled with the sights and sounds of college football all weekend.

I am so excited.

{10 days}

Until baby girl turns 3.

Where did the time go?!

fun with a…

{capital F}

That’s what my youngest cousin had to say about our extended family’s trip to northern Idaho together.

I think Reece would agree.

Thanks to my other cousin, Greg, for inviting us all to celebrate with them!

It was definitely “fun with a capital f”!

Still going through the photos…I have them edited down to 989.

Post will be up next week.

Until then, a little FUN from our week back home…

home is…FUN!

so, yeah…

It’s hot here in the Pacific Northwest.

While the rest of the country was in the sweltering heat we were enjoying perfect summer temps…not this week.

100 degrees today.

We are spending our time in the AC or in the pool.

{lazy}

Lazy summer mornings are the best.

In a little over 3 weeks they will be over for us.

School is starting and it will be bittersweet.

The little guy will be in school everyday.

Every.

Day.

I’m going to miss him.

Baby girl will be in school 1-2 days a week.

At least 3 days a week we will have girl time.

I’m thinking about getting her into some gymnastics and dance classes…she likes “girl” stuff.

I had big plans for this morning.

Clean the house.

Go to yoga.

It’s after 10 and we’re all still in PJ’s.

Lazy summer mornings are the best.

{more lake photos}

They are coming.

I promise.

{looking forward}

Between now and the first day of school we have some fun things to look forward to…

Nana and Bops are coming to visit…

Ryan’s 40th birthday…

Lorelai’s 3rd birthday…

And, lots to still do on our summer list!

So, yeah…there’s some random for you.

{one more}

Sunflowers are my favorite…bought some at Trader Joe’s yesterday!

home is…enjoying now.

{lake pend oreille} celebrating greg and natalie

It’s the Monday after returning from a week long vacation that was amazing.

We celebrated my cousin Greg and his beautiful new wife, Natalie.

We reunited with first and second cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents, parents, and siblings.

It was magical.

I won’t recap everything in words as I believe that the photos will speak for themselves.

The first night we arrived was the rehearsal dinner in downtown Sandpoint…

Cousins.

Siblings.

The following afternoon was the wedding on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille…

Cousins, aunts, uncles, siblings, grandparents.

More to come…

home is…celebrating family.

life is good

When I started this post on Sunday night, I was sitting on a deck, with a glass of wine, watching my dad fish as the sun was setting behind a “mountain”.

Meme and Aunt Betsy were snuggling with the kids while they watch a TinkerBell Movie.

We had been at my aunt and uncle’s lake house from 9 am until 5 pm.

Yesterday was pretty much the same…except we stayed at my aunt and uncle’s house for dinner and a bonfire.

The kids have played non-stop.

Reece is not afraid of being in the water.

He is swimming, jumping off docks and rock cliffs, getting on rafts, instigator of water fights, sharing rafts, riding on paddle boards.

He is a social butterfly who makes fast friends with our extended family.

Lorelai is a little bit more timid.

She stands or sits on the rocky beach collecting rocks with her chosen friends…Natalie, Suzanne, and Alyssa.

She won’t put her swimsuit on until the end of the day, and is refusing to put her life vest on to get in the water, but she LOVES to watch her brother…fishing, swimming, playing.

He taught her how to skip rocks…

i do’s

My cousin is getting married today on the shore of a beautiful northern Idaho lake.

It’s going to be an amazing celebration.

Reece and Lorelai are in the wedding…ring bearer and flower girl.

They rehearsed yesterday afternoon…

After the wedding festivities we get to stay here and play for a few more days.

It’s going to be an amazing vacation.

home is…getting away from home.

good mornings

This summer I am trying to spend as much time as I can in my happy place…our backyard.

After I feed the dogs, I head out to what I call “the best seat in the house” and drink my coffee.

Sometimes it is just minutes before one of the kids wakes up, or yells from the house in need of something.

Others, I have had nice chunks of time to sit and watch hummingbirds, read, catch up on blogs or blogging, and just soak it all in.

Each of those mornings I have a friend join me for coffee…

Odyssey LOVES coffee.

If I leave my cup unattended he will drink it all!

I love these summer mornings in my happy place with my special coffee loving friend.

home is…sharing my coffee.

tired…oh, and a giveaway

It’s been a long stretch of traveling for Ryan.

He’s tired.

I’m tired.

This stretch of travel has put him away 11 out of 15 days.

He’ll come home for one day, and then the kids and I leave on a road trip for a family wedding.

Lorelai and Reece are flower girl and ring bearer along with my sisters daughter, Sasha.

My mom is flying out to Portland to help me drive to Northern Idaho.

Ryan is staying in Portland to spend time with some friends who are visiting from the Boise area.

He will meet us in Northern Idaho sometime next week…at least that is the plan.

I’m looking forward to some celebrating, playtime, and fun with my extended family.

And, I’m hoping to come back home re-energized to end the summer…we still have a lot of our summer list left to accomplish!
