{collecting} vintage playroom

vintage playroom 1

When I started thrifting less than a year ago I also started some new collections.

vintage playroom 5

My collections are of items that I have always had a fondness of, but never knew how to find them…until I started thrifting.

vintage playroom 4

One of my favorite collections is my vintage fisher price collection.

vintage playroom 6

These toys come from the days of my youth. I am not sure I ever had any of them, nor do I recall playing with any of them (although I am sure I did at some point), but they take me back to when I was a little girl.

vintage playroom 12

I say it is my collection, but it is really for all of us…as are most of my collections.

The toys fill the shelves in the playroom (remember the playroom…something I thought we would never have).

The kids, most days, will pull the vintage fisher price off the toy shelves before they choose any of the newer toys.

…it all just makes me happy!

I imagine that these toys will go into the attic (or my creative cottage) to be stored until my own kids have children of their own.

vintage playroom 24

And, just like my kids do when they visit their grandparents in New York, they will play with the same toys that generations before them have been playing with.

When I come across duplicates of what we already have I put them into colton+cadence or post them for sale on instagram.

color my world valentines and a giveaway

Valentine’s Day is this week, and while I feel it is a bit of an over rated holiday (we SHOULD love our loved ones EVERYDAY) I still decorate for it and get excited about it.

More for my kiddos than anything else.

I wanted to go ALL OUT for Reece’s first Valentine’s party at preschool when he was 3, but held back because he was only in preschool.

Not to mention, I was an exhausted mom of a 3-1/2 and 1-1/2 year old and could only handle buying what was cheapest at the dollar store (is there such a thing?!) and MAYBE sign his name.

Last year, same story different year.

Although, I think I made HIM sign his name.

This year, I decided to do something fun!

Around here we are fans of maps and color, so I decided to combine the two…

valentines

color my world 4

I found these adorable crayon packages at Target…

color my world 7

Tear pages out of the atlas.

color my world 5

Cut out heart shapes…about 6″ large.

color my world 2

Glue a crayon pack onto one side of the heart.

color my world 6

Write “You color my world, friend!” on the other side.

color my world 9

Sign your name.

Share the love!

In the same section of Target where I found the awesome packs of crayons I also found the fun felted heart garland.

I swore that I could and would make something like it on my own, but gave in and bought TWO for our house.

Then, I went back and bought one more…for one of you!

I know you won’t get it in time for Valentines Day, but this is something I may keep up in my house year round!

And, you can too!

Thank you to all of you who left a comment…looks like most of you wait until after Thanksgiving to deck the halls!

There are still a few happy holiday hoops left in the shop…enter “gratitude15” in the coupon code to get 15% off your order from today through the end of the day Friday!

It might be a little quiet around here the next few days. We’re going to practice gratitude, stuff our faces, watch football, and enjoy family and friends.

tired…oh, and a giveaway

It’s been a long stretch of traveling for Ryan.

He’s tired.

I’m tired.

This stretch of travel has put him away 11 out of 15 days.

He’ll come home for one day, and then the kids and I leave on a road trip for a family wedding.

Lorelai and Reece are flower girl and ring bearer along with my sisters daughter, Sasha.

My mom is flying out to Portland to help me drive to Northern Idaho.

Ryan is staying in Portland to spend time with some friends who are visiting from the Boise area.

He will meet us in Northern Idaho sometime next week…at least that is the plan.

I’m looking forward to some celebrating, playtime, and fun with my extended family.

And, I’m hoping to come back home re-energized to end the summer…we still have a lot of our summer list left to accomplish!

{colton+cadence} it’s official

colton+cadence is officially open for business.

While my first thought for colton+cadence ran along the handmade lines I have decided that selling some vintage finds is how I want to start out my little venture.

Along with my recent collection of globes I have also started collecting vintage Pyrex!

Some of the treasures that I have chosen not to keep are for sale at colton+cadence!

Don’t you worry, handmade is sure to come…just when I have a bit more time.

A little bit vintage, a little bit handmade.

That’s what colton+cadence is about.

teacher appreciation, collections, and a giveaway

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week (May 7th-11th).

Last year I missed Teacher Appreciation Week altogether.

I was also late with my end of the year teachers gifts.

This year, with a little thrifting and creativity I have my gifts ready early.

Inspired by some ideas on Pinterest and my collection of globes I made these…

I am going to attach a card that reads:

“Thank you for being a bright light in our child’s ever-expanding world.”

In celebration of teachers being bright lights in our children’s worlds, I am giving one of these pendant lamps away!

To enter, leave a comment answering the following question:

What do you like to collect?

Deadline is Thursday, May 3rd at 9pm Pacific.

Winner will be announced on Friday, May 4th on the home is what you make it and colton+cadence Facebook pages (and here on the blog)!

{By the way, I have pairs and singles for sale at colton+cadence.}

merry christmas…and a winner

When I look at our bulletin board full of holiday cards from friends and family all I can do is smile.

We are so blessed.

Earlier this week the little guy asked me to record him on my iPhone.

He was saying a prayer before he ate a snack (like he does at preschool).

The last thing he said was, “…thank you for this wonderful life and our family.”

He’s got it right.

Merry Christmas to you all!

And, congratulations to Jen for winning the giveaway!

Jen, I will contact you and get your prize to you ASAP!

I will be taking a few days off to spend time at home with my family.
