the little guy said…

I have been wondering why the little guy has been telling me…

“Mommy, you look like a beach angel.”

I just saw the Travelocity commercial.

Now it makes sense, but I have no idea where or when he would have seen the commercial?!

Do they show it on Nick, Sprout, OPB, or Nick Jr?!

************
This morning as I was getting dressed he said, “Mommy, you look like a cow.”

I asked for clarification, but didn’t get much.

home is…trying to figure out if I look like a beach angel or a cow.

my husband rocks

This is the new view from our kitchen window…

Ryan spent all day finishing the railing so the kids are safe.

We will stain the railing, add stairs from the grass, and a rope ladder next to one of the trees on the back.

Now all we need is beautiful weather for having our friends over to play!

{update} play-tree-house

Along with some major spring cleaning, purging and organizing that has been going on inside the house we are making progress on the play-tree-house for the kids!

You can read about how we came up with the idea here and here.

We got the playhouse put together about a month ago and have been working on the platform the last couple of days here and there.

I say “we”, but it has really been my husband doing all of the manual labor and me supervising or barking orders like I know what I am doing.

The kids seem excited about it and have been pretty good helping and staying out of the way when needed.

Here are a few photos…

Ryan got the decking boards attached while I put the kids to bed to night, but it is now too dark to take anymore photos.

This weekend we will work on the step ladders and the railing.

The kids are going to love it!

home is…progress being made.

how’s everybody doing out there?

So, I write about my life.

Tell me a little about what’s going on with you.

How’s everybody doing?

What’s everybody doing?

Got anything you want to ask me?

Got anything you want to tell me?

Shoot…

home is…checkin’ in with your friends.

pretty, but lonely

My kids (husband) bought me a beautiful silk shirt from Anthropologie for Mother’s Day.

Really, it was beautiful.

I tried it on and really, really liked it, but I couldn’t think of a time when I would wear it.

Yeah, for the rare times that my husband and I get to go out, but for the most part it would just sit in my closet and look pretty.

Pretty, but lonely.

I don’t want my clothes to be lonely.

I want them to be loved.

Worn.

So, I got this dress from Boden instead.

Remember the flower wallpaper I mentioned in this post last Friday?

This dress reminds me of it.

I can still wear it out for a date night, but can also wear it with the kids or for a night out with my girl friends!

It will be loved.

Worn.

may flowers

I love flowers.

Maybe it comes from growing up with the beautiful gardens that my mom tended to.

Maybe it was the daisy wallpaper in my room (and the many other flower motifs throughout the years of redesigning my room as a child…my mom was always up for a change).

If you were to tour my home you would find flowers in each of the rooms except for my husbands office and the little guys room.

Not necessarily fresh flowers, but some kind of flower.

And with the exception of baby girls room, which is all-flower-all-the-time, it is just a hint here and there.

I was thrilled when Emily at jones design company said she was going to share some of her flower making tutorials this past week. She is one of my favorite creative blogging mommas and she lives here in the Pacific Northwest!

flower-week

Have you visited her website?! If not, you should.

I plan on trying all the tutorials over the next few weeks…some of you may even receive some gifts with my handiwork on them!

Speaking of handiwork…

I got my craft on a few weeks ago on a Friday night. I used a wreath that I made last fall (the ruffle wreath tutorial from jones design company) and added…you guessed it…flowers.

I made the flowers the same way I made them for the hair clips I made for a baby shower gift for a little girl that was recently born.

On another flower note…

The neighbors dogwood is blooming.

There is a stand of trees that I drive by on a multiple times a day basis. It has dogwoods throughout underneath towering douglas firs. It’s like a little enchanted forest. I love it.

I always think I am going to stop and take some photos before the dogwoods lose the flowers, but every year I forget. Maybe this will be the year I stop and take some photos.

home is…stopping to smell, create, photograph, and love the flowers.

mother’s day tea

I got to spend a couple of hours alone with the little guy this morning.

The little guy is the one who is doing all the talking and not much of the singing…

He is so much fun!

We had tea and punch afterwards.
