it happened

I missed a day.

I had planned to write a quick blog post last night about our busy day in the picture perfect Pacific Northwest weather.

I took photos at the playground and everything!

Then this happened.

Shock and awe.

Well, I wasn’t really in shock, but maybe awe.

I was glued to the TV after I put the little guy to bed.

The men and women who have been fighting, searching, intelligencing (I know it’s not a word, but go with me on this one) to get this guy deserve all the credit.

They have sacrificed.

I thought about the families who lost loved ones and the people they lost on 9/11.

This is for them.

I’m not sure how this will change our world, but I do know that there is one less bad guy on the planet.

home is…bigger news than what I had planned for last nights blog post.

this is what you get

It’s 9:00 PM.
I don’t remember opening up my computer today.
Maybe I did.
Maybe I didn’t.
Dropped off the Yukon to get it detailed.
Painted some stuff…desk, table, and chalkboard.
Went to Home Depot, Costco and Cash & Carry.
Picked up the Yukon.
Ate breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Listened to rock & roll, drank beer and hung out with my favorite people.
Now watching HGTV.
Just found out the HGTV Green Home is in Stapleton…may have to enter?
I totally forgot about writing my post for today.
This is what you get.

home is…a non-stressful Saturday.

reclamation

Yesterday I reclaimed some space in our house for me! I am so excited about it!

We have a closet underneath our staircase. It’s an awkward space with a sloped ceiling. We used it for our “cat room” where we fed the cats and kept their litter boxes. We also kept other supplies for the cats and dogs in the closet, but nothing else.

The space is approximately 6-1/2 feet x 3 feet…about 19 sf of space…for the cats.

We now only have one cat, so I moved his space to the smaller closet in the laundry room and have reclaimed the space under the stairs as mine. While I would love to do something totally creative and fun with it I am most likely going to be practical.

I need a space to store my craft supplies, art and craft supplies for the kids, somewhere to hang up my bag(s) and put my camera, a general “dumping ground” for some of my things that don’t have a home, and a central home organization area (you know, a space for family calendar, school newsletters, and other such things). Right now I use random corners, the impractical desk in the kitchen, and the dining room for these uses.

I’d like to pull some electrical into the space for a lamp or overhead light as there is not a light in there now (maybe a quick project my dad could help with this summer), I’d like to paint it a fun color, and I’d like to add some of the Trofast storage from IKEA.

While I would like it to be a project that I could get done this weekend, that is not practical. Maybe I can get started on the painting…what color?!

Do you have a similar space in your home? What have you done with it?

{tuesdays with lola} lunch with the girls

This week it was actually a Wednesday with Lola.

I only took one photo.

We met a girl I knew in college who has recently moved to Portland for lunch in the Pearl.

Baby girl sat for 2 hours while my friend and I chatted.

2 HOURS!

In a high chair.

She was amazing.

Besides the 3 or 4 sugar packets that she poured out all over the table and the crayons on the floor she was an absolute angel.

She was just one of the girls out for lunch.

It was fun.

the easter bunny was here

I have found, over the last 5 years, that quiet holidays spent at home with our small family are my favorite.

Don’t get me wrong, I miss celebrating with our extended family, but it is so nice to not have anything we have to do on a day like today.

We are starting our own traditions. I love it.

And, when we decide that the excitement and celebrating is over, it is over.

It was over around 9:30 this morning. Shortly after breakfast.

And we moved on with our day…

The kids and I went to the club where I ran almost 4 miles (finally getting back to normal), the kids played with friends, and Ryan stayed home to do a P90X workout.

I am off to take a nap while the kiddos do the same and the hubby gets some work done.

home is…happy easter, everybody!

there is nothing like spring skiing

Today the family headed up to the mountain for fun in the snow (and sun)!

The little guy and I skied while Ryan and baby girl people watched and cheered us on.

The little guy did awesome!

We took lots of runs down the slope next to the Ballroom Carpet at Mt. Hood Meadows.

He didn’t want to stop.

In fact, we finally took a break for lunch and then he wanted to go ski some more!

He did not want me to hold on to him at all. Each time, at the top of the “Magic Carpet” he would say, “Mommy, hold off!”

He likes to go fast and is not afraid to fall. I tried to teach him the wedge to slow down and he said that he did not want to slow down. I told him he would have to stop at the bottom of the hill or if he thought he might hit someone…he told me he would just fall to stop.

There was a beautiful blue sky, sun, awesome snow, live music and the people I love the most in this world. A perfect spring skiing day in my book! It was probably our last day to ski this season. I am already excited for next season and can’t wait until baby girl (and Ryan) can ski with us!

By the way, today was the first day that I have spent on the mountain and actually been able to see the top of the mountain. It’s majestic.

some days

I didn’t really plan to be, but guess what?

I’m a blogger.

Although, I don’t blog for an audience.

I bet there are some of you, my audience, who might beg to differ.

Well, differ away.

I blog for myself.

Writing is cathartic.

Taking photographs is a joy.

Putting the words and photos together is something I love to do.

Even if it is just for this year.

Some days are just darn good.

Some days are frustrating.

Some days are reflective.

Some days are funny.

Some days are full of accomplishment.

Some days are dirty.

Some days we don’t get much done.

Some days are wishful.

Some days are better than others.

Some days I’m happy.

Some days I’m sad.

Some days give inspiration to others.

Some days seem so long ago.

But…

Everyday I am thankful.

Everyday I am full of love for my family.

Everyday I am happy for the life that I am living.

Everyday I believe in the impossible because I’m possible.

delicious ambiguity

I love these simple cards from Quotable Cards.

CardsandBooks/quotable/700200.jpg

I remember the first time I saw one of these in a card shop on The Hill on Boulder.

Over the years I have sent Quotable Cards to family, given them to friends, and kept some for myself.

I have some stuffed in drawers, magnets in random places, and a calendar in my desk.

This is a good one for how life is treating our family right now…
